Sacher cake

Sacher cake

Although it may seem strange, between the powerful Austrian Chancellor Klemens von Metternich (1773-1859) and delicious Sacher cake, flagship of gastronomy in his country, there is a very close link.

The fact political, famous for being one of the major architects of Congress of Vienna (1815), unwittingly contributed to the invention of this cake.

Metternich was fond of chocolate, something of which he was apparently unaware of the sixteen year old baker court Franz Sacher, called to replace another cook and invited by the Metternich to prepare a dessert that he did not look bad with guests.

The year was 1832: the Sachertorte and its inventor became immortal (Photo gives: blog.giallozafferano.it).
